Women's Day will be celebrated at the Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Amissville, on Sunday, March 2. Rev. Ruth Webb of the Faith Christian Church and Outreach Center in Warrenton will be the speaker at the 11 a.m. service. The Mount Zion Baptist Chinch, Warrenton will be the afternoon guests with Sister Sandra Foddrell, the guest speaker. Dinner will be served after the 11 a. m. service. Questions? “Ways and Means Anniversary Celebration” will be held at the Macedonia Baptist Church on Sunday, March 2, at 3 p.m. The guest singers will be The Spiritual Edition Gospel Singers from Chesapeake, Va. Dinner will be served following the morning service. Rev. Donald Simplon invites everyone.

On Good Friday, Mar. 21, at 7 pun., the Grace Church Choir, soloists and cellist under the direction of Samuel Carabetta, Organist and Choirmaster will present “A Meditation on the Passion of Christ, with Carols.” Carols are most often associated with the Advent and Christmas seasons, but they exist for different occasions. Many carols are replete with references and imagery of more than one aspect of Christ’s life and ministry, making them equally, if not more appropriate for use at Passiontide. Now intersperse ancient and intoxicating plainsong amidst the carols??the combination is extraordinarily powerful and moving! The service will include carols written by Benjamin Britten, Elizabeth Fhston, Tchaikovsky and Vaughan Williams. Now sung annually at St. Johns College, Cambridge, England, this poignant service brings to the season of Lent, the feeling of the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols for Christmas, first sung at Kings College, Cambridge, England. The service is divided into three parts - Gethsemane, the Trial, and the Crucifixion - each of which contains Old Testament prophecy regarding the coming of a suffering Savior, the relevant narratives from the gospels of Mark, Matthew and Luke, sung to the ancient plainsong chant; and textually appropriate plainsong antiphons.
