Then? wxll be a public event in the fall to kick off the project with speakers, music and audiovisual components, training for five Story rhcilitaturs and their assistants, and the first round of story circles. Questions asked of the participants in the first round will focus on the past and the present. The second round of story circles following in the spring will give participants a chance to focus on the future. Story circles will include 7-g participants creating the opportunity for participants to both sham their own stories and to listen and learn from others' stories. The Rappahannock Story Prqject is not simply oral history—where the preservation of present or past is the goal—-but uses story to understand how to create a future from values that are shared. Fur the Story IVoject to be effective, a broad cross section of the county's nch diversity are needed to participate. Plans are being made to include between 400 to 500 Rappahannock residents.
Story circles and interviews will be documented with video. Copies of all the original footage will be donated to the Rappahannock Ihtblic library and The Rappahannock Historical Society and available to the puhlic. It is estimated that the Story Prqject will havt» between 400 to 600 hours of footage from the story gathering process. A film documenting the process of the Story Project with the collected stories will be edited and become a DVD addendum to the 2010 Rappahannock County Comprehensive Plan. An interactive K.iiv pahannock Story IVoject website will he develop**! so that project documentation is available on the Internet. Anyone will be able to contribute Knppnlian nock stori*>s for (Misting on the website. At the end of the Story IVqject, materials will be published documenting the entire Prqject and accompanied by the DVD. These materials, along with the website, will allow other comnumita>s to use the Rappahannock Story IVqject as a model to adapt for story prqjects in their own communities,
