This past Wednesday was the last of five Ecumenical Lenten services and covered dish dinners. I can't tell you how much I enjoy those services and how much I receive from them. Attendees walk away with a full stomach and an uplifted spirit as well as a rich sense of community and Christian unity. It is wonderful to sup and worship, not as Baptists or United Methodists or Episcopalians or Catholics, but as the Body of Christ.
As Lent comes to a close, local churches are preparing for Holy Week services. Palm Sunday is March 16. Find a local church, wave those palm branches and sing “Hosanna!” On the Rappahannock United Methodist Charge a Maundy Thursday service at Willis Chapel UMC, March 20 at 7 p.m.. where worshipers will remember the Last Supper and share in Holy Communion. The Good Friday service is being planned and led by seminarian Chris Schafer at Sperryville UMC, March 21 at 7 p.ra. A community Sunrise service will be held at 6:30 a.m. on the grounds of the Flint Hill Fire Department. If it is raining or snowing, the service will be held in the Fire Hall, where a fantastic breakfast will be served following worship. There will be a full Easter worship service, filled with Alleluias, at Flint Hill UMC at 8:45 a.m.
