that tuber roots grow from their base and also their sides. Examples of tubers are potatoes, dahlias, gloxinia and anemones.
Rhizomes are horizontal underground stems having nodes, buds or scale-like leaves. The most well-known rhizome is the iris.
Try to refrain from cuttinc leaves back too soon after the flowers fade. All the food in the underground stem is exhausted when the plant is in bloom. The leaves will absorb energy and again store it in its underground stem. If the leaves are cut back too soon, flower production will be reduced next spring. Divide your geophytes every three or four years, or when you notice the blooms getting smaller, which indicates they may be overcrowded.
