According to LaBrake. there are 10 distinctive varieties of garlic: 8 hard-necks and 2 soft necks. Subtle differences are accounted for by many “types" within these varieties. LaDrake said that hard-necks consistent ly do the best. He also said that the largest cloves are not netessarily derived from the largest bulbs, and suggested using medium si/ed bulbs to get the best seed stock.
