The Castleton company has found the lanes to be the most challenging to locate the correct house. The mailboxes are usually on the main road and not in front of the house. There is a street sign indicating the lane, however, after drivers turn onto the lane, there normally isn’t anything to tell us which driveway is for what address. The company is trying to get people to mark their driveway with the reflective signs so they can be quickly identified. If emergency services turn into the wrong driveway, knock on the wrong door and then try to turn a big firetruck or ambulnnce around in a very narrow space or even worse, have to back all the way out a long drive, a lot of precious time is lost.
Castleton Community Volunteer Fire Company will be selling 911 address signs at the Farmer’s Co-op in Sperryville and Mayhugh’s Store in Amissville on Saturday. May 10, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The company will make your sign while you wait or you can contact Castleton Fire Company at 540-937-4115 or call 540-937-5225 after 6:00 p.m. or weekends to place an order.
