The lovely woman

contest — for men only

By Jed Duvall

Special to the Rappahannock News

The unusual beauty contest held at the Rappahannock County Elementary School on Saturday evening featured nearly a dozen adult beauties, and even four youngsters. The contestants showed off voluptuous figures clad in stylish dresses; they wore feminine makeup to accompany their flowing tresses. And they were all males from

Northern Virginia. The scene was the Womanless Beauty Pageant, an element of the Relay for Life to help raise funds to fight cancer. The chair of this event, Carolyn Leake of Chester Gap, reported that the evening took in a little over $1,200. That compares to over $1,600 last year. “The economy is really bad,” said Leake. It was Carolyn Leake’s husband, Thomas, who, after the judges votes were tabulated, wore the crown of the victor. Darrel Martin of Alexandria and William Grigsby of Flint Hill were the runners-up.
