NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

BY RAPPAHANNOCK COUNTY

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

On the 5th day of May 2008 at 7:00PM the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors shall hold a public hearingin the Rappahannock County High School Auditorium, 12576 Lee Highway, Washington, VA to consider the application by James W, Fletcher. III. Janice 0. Carwile, Trustee, and George K. Miller. Incorporated, property owners, for a special exception to operate a conference center or resort on four contiguous tracts of land located in the Piedmont Election District of Rappahannock County. These tracts are on the west side of the F.T. Valley Road (State Route 231) between Rolling Road (Route 681) and Sharp Rock Road (Route 707). The four tracts of land are Tax Map Parcels 47-25 (426 acres), 48-28B (156.8733 acres). 48-46B (91.0267 acres) and 54-28 (5 acres). The 5-acre tract contains the house known as the “George Miller place' and assorted outbuildings, which are accessed from Rt. 231 by way of Stay man Lane. All four parcels are zoned Agncultural. The use sought, as a “conference center or resort," is defined by §170-8 of the Rappahannock County Code as a use which provides temporary lodging, meals, entertainment, recreation, etc. for more than forty persons, in a rural setting. The use is allowed in the Agricultural Zoning District by special exception in accordance with §170-36D. The general standards for special exceptions are contained in §170-52. and additional standards are contained in §170-65N.

This application was considered by the Rappahannock County Planning Commission on 16 January 2008 and its recommendations have been forwarded to the Board of Supervisors.
