PROPOSING TO AMEND AND READOPT
THE ZONING ORDINANCE OF
THE TOWN OF WASHINGTON, VIRGINIA
The Planning Commission and Town Council of Washington. Virginia shall hold a joint public hearing in accordance with §15.2-2204 of the Code of Virginia. 1950. as amended, to consider comprehensive amendments to the Zoning Ordinance of the Town of Washington. Virginia on Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at 7:00PM at the Town Hall in Washington. Virginia. The complete text of the proposed ordinance assigns article numbers to the existing Flood Plain and Historic District ordinances and incorporates them into the Zoning Ordinance, while also incorporating the existing Combined Ordinance Definitions sections as the final article of the Zoning Ordinance, while also making amendments to same. The Proposed Zoning Ordinance makes changes to the maximum proposed development density in the "RR" or Rural Residential Zoning District from the current 1.5 to 1.8 acres per dwelling unit to a maximum of one dwelling unit per five acres through conventional development, or one per three acres through the approval of a special permit of a "clustered" subdivision, which may include clustered lots of as small as one-half acre. New and additional standards, submission requirements, and definitions are provided in the amendments as well. No other zoning district or category is proposed to have changes to allowable density under the proposed amendments.
In addition, minor amendments and technical changes are proposed.
