On thing is certain, change is imminent and the question as 1 see before the Board of Supervisors is how will the county provide alternative uses to preserve open space and agriculture other than scenic easements, which seems to be a mantra for this small group of activists. Easements are not the best financial plan for everyone. If everyone placed their land in easement we would have no tax revenue to provide even the most basic local services. Bath County has had it* load tax revenue shrink to nothing because of scenic easements. Easements are also not guaranteed revenue and are subject to challenge for two years from the transfer date and if reversed the landowner is responsible to pay back all state and federal revenue and benefits received.
The application for a conference center/resort on the George Miller Farm has been sorely mischaracterized by Mr. Svatos and a small band of activists. This proposed application would not radically change the look and feel of the farm, nor would it bring a steady stream of people into FT Valley to trample the neighborhood and frighten off the ^wildlife.
