I must say that I was not surprised, given that Bill Fletcher has been the subject of a hate mass mailing, when I received a copy of Joe Svatos letter and petition regarding the George Miller Farm. The letter supported by a small group of F.T. Valley activists was distributed by local realtors Kaye and Rick Kohler with instructions to print and sign a copy and forward it to Mr. Svatos or to The Rappahannock News.
In his letter Mr. Svatos says that “Approval of this application
will diminish property values and adversely affect the peace and eryoyment of neighbors for miles around.”
A look at similar conference centers/resorts in Virginia suggests otherwise, these properties host wedding (and other) events throughout the year, and typically offer such services several weekends per month. Due to the size and topography the George Miller Fhrm could easily assimilate a large number of visitors with minimal impact on the neighborhood. The allegations that a conference center would adversely affect the neighbors economically are incorrect and in fact quite the opposite is true. The best examples locally would be The Inn, Arlie and Marriott Ranch all of which have helped increase property values in their respective areas.
