School Superintendent Br. Bob Chappell isn't going to retire. He may he pulling out all his hair to squeeze a budget that's already a turnip, but he said he likes his job so much, that he's sticking around.
Chappell made his non-retirement emphatically clear to chuckling School Board members at the board's meeting Tuesday night while presenting an early retirement option for .school employees as a potential cost saving measure. Chappell also walked the board through an early draft of his preliminary budget for 2009-2010.
Chappell recommended that the board not ask for additional monev from the county and presented a list of potent ial cost savings.
■ Among these were the elimination of three teaching or administrative positions (including one that currently vacant . preferably through early retirement., Other recommended cuts include reductions in field trips, athletic i<nps, staff trips; no new buses >four are neanng their service litei;and no capital projects for next year
There wall be no salary increases next year, although benefits will remain the same.
A few positions may also be restructured, and afterschool “athletic and academic stipends will be restructured, reduced or eliminated,''
