Ben “Cooter” Jones has had an exciting career on a television show that has iconic status in this country and, I would imagine, around the world. He has served his country as a Congressman from Georgia to the U.S. House of Representatives. I applaud his accomplishments and can only imagine how these events have added to the satisfaction and meaning of his life. I’m sure there are many of us who would love to have such experiences in our lives. I’m also sure Mr. Jones is an educated man (that should be obvious by the quality of his writings) and there doubtlessly have been many other milestones in his life that contribute to the person he is. While I respect all this, I am not convinced he has the standing to question my beliefs.
Mr. Jones tells us, in his column in the Feb. 5 Rappahannock News, that when he read Mr. Pagano’s letter, which attacked traditional, conservative, Christian belief and values, he was not moved to act. It was only when I wrote to stand up for my religious beliefs that he felt he had to respond. Mr. Jones says that my premise is faulty and questionable. I have to assume that since Mr. Jones was allowed to make his letter personal, and address me as Sir, I am free to do the same. Therefore, Mr. Jones,.I would ask you Sir: what is it that makes you think you have the moral superiority to question what I believe? I have not questioned what anyone else believes or their right to believe it. I have simply asserted my beliefs.
