The sheriff related a similar incident recently in which two checks were sent to a man to cash. When the first one was returned, a second one was sent for more and that was cashed as well. Both were bad.

Rappahannock National Bank President Mike Leake said, “Fraudulent activity is at an all time high.

“Anything suspicious whether it’s money orders, checks, get validated by your bank or through the law enforcement,” he continued.

“If you think it’s too good to be true it probably is.”
