The Theatre at Washington, Virginia will present a concert called “Work o’ The Weavers" on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 3 pin.
The pioneering folk music quartet known as “The Weavers" was formed shortly after World War II and disbanded in 1964. In 2001, The Weavers were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. Five years later, they received the “Lifetime Achievement Award” during the 2006 Grammy Awards.
In the years between its founding and its recognition in the Grammy Awards ceremony. The Weavers were the catalyst for a resurgence of interest in American folk music. The Kingston Trio, The Turners, Be ter Paul and Mary, Joan Baez and Bob Dylan all credited The Weavers as being among their early musical influences.
The quartet coming to the Theatre on Feb. 22 revels in the music and the history of the original “Weavers.” Members of the quartet said they “seek to recall the spint of The Weavers, providing an echo of their music and some insight into their story.”That story refers to the Weavers being black-listed during
