Diley held the first period scoreless and deferred his choice for starting position in the second period. Fosdyck scored on a reversal having chosen bottom position and within moments caught Diley in a headlock resulting in a 2:39 pin for Fosdyck.
“He went further than we expected,” said Rappahannock coach Jamie Harris. “Taking second in the state, there is no shame in that.”
A tired Diley credited conditioning and the help of his parents and coach for his wrestling success.
For the season, Diley finished a school record 49-6 with a career mark of 103-36, also a school mark, said Harris. “To add to this, he pinned 35 opponents (school record) and he also holds the school record with an 8 second pinfall.”
