chance to celebrate the end ot winter, the coming of spring and the Irish tradition of honoring the patron saint of the Emerald Isle.
The entire' community is invited to the colorful parade, which will step off at 11 a.m. on a route through the town, with the Rappahannock County High School marching band, a bagpipe band, antique and classic cars, county fire and rescue units, riding horses, llamas, and lots of dogs.
After the parade, the Lions will host a ticketed Irish luncheon (Guinness beef stew, corned beef and cabbage) at the Washington Volunteer Fire Department hall. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door (if not sold out in advance.)
An Irish band with the curious name of King Golden Banshee will entertain at the luncheon with Irish traditional music including jigs, reels and pub songs, with sing-along and perhaps some dancing. KGB, as they call themselves, is a six-man band featuring banjo, guitar, flute and tin whistle, keyboards and bodhran—an Irish drum that drives a lively beat.
