In recent weeks, editors and reporters from the Times Community Newspapers family of weekly papers have met in Warrenton with all four candidates for governor — Democrats state Sen. R. Creigh Deeds, Brian Moran and Terry McAuliffe and the lone GOP entry. Attorney General Bob McDonnell. These are four intelligent, articulate people, wellversed in Virginia politics and brimming with ideas for their anticipated stay in the Richmond mansion. Sad to say, they all failed the litmus test. Over the course of four separate interviews, we gave these candidates a chance to outline their plans, all of which assume that late this year, certainly no further out than early 2010, the economy will bounce back, bringing happy days back here again. And if they don’t?
