Uncertainty over a “grant anticipation” financing plan and lack of word on final award of the $1.5 million grant for construction of the Sperryville sewer system prompted the Water and Sewer Authority to shorten its agenda at Monday night’s meeting.
“As of Friday, we’ve received no word on the grant. We’re still hanging in there,” reported Chairman Bob Dennis, in reference to notification of formal grant award expected at any time from the Environmental Protection Agency.
Hard surfaced roads in the hollows below the Blue Hidge sustained almost as much damage as graveled roads. Flood waters lifted chunks of asphalt, leaving gaping holes that won’t be completely repaired until spring.
After the waters subsided, highway crews were out inspecting the damage left by the seven inches of rain that fell last Tuesday. Willie Ryan, bridge crew supervisor for the Fauquier/Rappahannock residency, checked the road in Beahm Hollow after gullies carved by the flood stopped his four-wheel drive International truck, the department’s “drift buster.”
