Win Angus Prizes
Newbill Miller and Bobby Atkins brought glory to Rappahannock county yesterday at Charlottesville when Newbill’s Angus calf was declared reserve champion and Bobby’s calf won fourth place in the light-weight Angus class.
The baby beef Angus calf show and sale was held yesterday morning, April 26, beginning at 10 o’clock, at the MacGregor Motor Company in Charlottesville.
Newbill Miller’s calf was judged first in light weight Angus, was awarded first premium in fitting and showing, and was named reserve champion of Angus calves in the show. Newbill is the son - of Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Miller, of Washington, who are. strong in their praise of County Agent Wi H. Lyne, by whose encouragement and help the boys are doing so well with their 4-H work.
This calf of Newbill’s was purchased by him last October. Since he has had it, the calf has shown an average gain of two pounds daily, and weighed 850 pounds when carried to the show. The calf was bred at Thornton Hill Farm of J. W, Fletcher, Sperryville.
Newbill Miller, 14, has been a 4-H member ever since he was old enough to join. This is his first year with a calf project, and he has had sole care and has kept all the records. This is not the first time Newbill has been a prize winner, however, for he won first prize last year with a Hampshire Die:.
