Committing suicide with or by means of a motor vehicle might be written off as the suieitj&r.’s business, although suicide islllegal, but until affected the average person doesn’t consider that the reckless dri\er -is quite willing to drag some person across the Styx with him who still thinks this ball of clay is a pretty good place.
Increased enforcement and tougher licensing laws mean additional taxes and more toes stepperl upon. Consideration is not given to the $36-million traffic "accidents” cost Virginia last year, nor the fact that mashed toe might be less evil than several mashed heads.
Those in official capacity can’t do it all any more than our standing navy could take care of Jhe Axis boys during the late unpleasantness. Public opinion can usually get what it wants. It wanted women to vote and they vote. It wanted prohibition and got it. It also got rid of that HOT potato.
When we realize that minimum fines aren’t stopping insanely lethal acts, that maniacs and incompetents hold licenses and stop thinking the man who unnecessarily and deliberately endangers the lives of our children is a good Joe to pal around with, we’ll begin to get somewhere.

Improvement Increases
,Some 5,000 members of 4-H ebbs in Virginia, will take part in the 1950 Home Improvement program, according to state officials at VPI.
Outstanding accomplishments wilT again be awarded to each of the eight top-ranking 4-H’ers^in the nation. The State chamjdon will be given a trip to the National 4-H Congress in Chicago, and county winners will receive medals.
Last year medals were presented to 36 in Virginia. State honors went to Edith Hackworth, of Huddleston.
Nationwide enrollment in the home improvement program has increased almost 15,0000 in the past year, and the number of 4H’ers awarded county medals jumped f. om 2,443 to 3,052.
Miss Ruth Jamison, house furnishings specialist at VPI, says the program features demonstrations, displays, and instruction. Much interest, she -says, was evidenced at a recent meeting in Richmond, where more than 300 club girls, their mothers, and Extension agents from 24 counties jn Eastern Virginia gathered to see demonstrations and hear advice on home improvement. Similar meetings are scheduled for Norfolk on April 29, Front Royal on May 20, and Petersburg on April 22.
