Minstrel Show A Success
The minstrel show which was held on Wednesday, April 26, under the direction' of Mrs. K. WT. Cahan, and Miss Lucy Mae Smith as accompanist, proved to be a big success. The interlocutor was Professor H. B. Winfrey, and end men were blacked and wore overalls and straw hats. The girls wore white long sleeve blouses, red jerkins and blue skirts. The program was:
“The Pledge of Allegiance”— by the chorus.
“Bibidibadiboo’’— by. the chorus.
“A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes”—by the chorus.
“The Highland Fling”—a duet and dance by William Armentrout and Barbara Brown.
"Camptown Races” — by the end men and chorus.
“Old Black Joe”—a solo by Dartd Brown.
“I Like Mountain Musif”—by the chorus.
A dance by Betty Smoot—by the “Chattanooga Shoe Shine Boy.’’
“Dear Hearts and Gentle People”—by the chorus.
“There’s No Tomorrow” — a solo by Mary Helen Bruce.
“I Said My Pajamas”—a solo by Sally Dwyer.
“The Cuckoo Clock”—a solo by Lo ise Johnson.
“The Wiffinpoof Song”—by the chorus.
“Can’t Help Lovin’ That Man O’ Mine ’—a solo by Joan Kelly Aylor.
“Sit Down Servant”—by the chorus. *

He was born April 12, 1777 in Hanover county, Virginia.
He was admitted to the Va. bar in. 1797 and began to practice law at Lexington, Ky.
In 1811 he entered the National House of Representatives, and was elected speaker on the first day of t.he session.
Five times he was re-elected to the House and to the f'peaket*htp-.
In 1824 he was an unsuccessful candidate for the Presidency.
In 1824 he and Adams were the leaders of the newly founded National Republican party known as the Whig.
In 1854 he was appointed Secretary of State.
In 1850 he made his last great speech in the Senate of the Compromise of 1850, a group of measures that postponed for ten years the outbreak of the war of secession.
He was one of that great trio of American orators.
