Attached to tiie back of the fourth volume is a steel engraved ‘fac-simile’ (this fac-simile bears notations of B. Franklin) of the original document written by Thomas Jefferson entitled “A Declaration i(by the Representatives of the United States of America, in General Congress Assembled.”
The greatest majority of Jefferson’s letters and papers published in these four volumes were either ■written from "Monticello” or from Washington, D. C.
The following letter was received by Mrs. Louemma Moffett on July 17, 1944 from Joseph W. Hiseox, chief agricultural exhibits, following the period after the books had been on exhibition in Washington, D. C.
‘‘We want you to know that the four volumes ‘Memoir, Correspondence, and Miscellanies, from the papers of Thomas Jefferson,’ which you loaned for display in the Thomas Jefferson Bi-centennial exhibit and which were re-_ turned to you on Saturday, July 15, proved to be extremely interesting to the pjblic.
‘‘The books properly safeguarded in a special display case, were put on display in the center of the Jefferson exhibit when it was shown in the,Patio of the Administration Building where they attracted a great deal of attention.
