A few of the leading citizens of the town held a conference in the spring of 1343, and decided to see if it were possible >to interest an all-woman 'town ticket to enter the campaign for election in June. A Republican ticket had, previously announced, and Democratic wo*' men were approached and asked to enter their candidacies, to which they readily agreed. Then the women proceeded to show Clintwood something new in intensive campaigning.
They made a house-to-house drive for votes, and they plastered the town with banners and slo. gans, aided and abetted by the local weekly newspaper. When the ballots were counted on June 8 the result was a landslide for the women in a community that was * normally Republican. The vots| was better than three to one for the feminine ticket.
