County committeemen present from the counties served by the Culpeper office were T. G. Ragsdale, Robert G. Apperson and L. M. Twyman from Culpeper county; William O. Smith, Jr., from Madison county, and I. Nelson Atkins and James E. Yates from Rappahannock county. Each county has three committeemen appointed for a term of three years with one committeeman retiring June 80 of each year. No applicant can be approved for a loan through FHA until he has been certified as to his eligibility by the county committeemen. ‘ /• Farmers Home Administration makes loans for the purchase of farms, enlargement of farms and farm development, over a period «f 40 years at 4% interest. Farm Housing loans are also made for either new construction or repairr to farm buildings at the rate of 4% for a period not to exceed 83 y**1’*- Operating loans are made for a period of from one to five
at 8% interest. These operating loans are for the purchase of lime, fertiliser, seed, livestock, machinery, and other farm purposes. FHA can lend only to those families who are not eligible for credit through the banks, Farm Credit Association, and any other lending agencies.
