Annual Meeting
County FHA committeemen from 23 counties in Northern Virginia met in Culpeper at the Municipal building Thursday, July 27, for their annual meeting. There were about 40 committeemen present in addition to the seven county FHA Supervisors who serve these counties. The meeting was conducted by personnel from the Richmond State Office. Speakers on the program includeed, James E. Stone, chief, program operations; P. M. Jackson, farm management specialist, and Julian A.^ Hawthorne, state field representative for the Northern Virginia area. Mrs. O'Brien, state home management specialist was also present and tok part in the discussions.
The county committeemen meet together once each year to view past performances of the program and to become further acquainted with FHA policies and their duties as committeemen. Mr. Jackson pointed out to the committeemen their responsibility for certifying only those eligible families who are ready and willing to improve their farming practices in order to earn a good living and pay their debts from their farm income. Committeemen took part in discussions on how we can better meet the needs of each individual family and ways of increasing farm income through better practices. It was brought out that in many instances the loans were too small for the individual borrower to actually accomplish his goal. It was learned that the average operating capital for FHA borrowers was less than the State average, based on a survey made by Extension Service sometime azo.
