Throughout Virginia and the nation, thousands of girls have developed skill in food preservation. Many are eligible for awards offered in the National 4-H canning program by Kerr Glass Manufacturing Co. The glass- jar firm has been a continuous donor of 4-H canning awards for the last 34 years.
This fall, six of the nation’s outstanding project members will each receive a $400 scholarship. In addition, the top state award winner for 1962 will receive an all-expense trip to the National 4-H Club Congress in Chicago, opening November 25. Miss Rosaline Johnson from Bedford county is Virginia’s 1962 state winner, and will attend the Congress and compete for national honors. Last year over 700 4-H members in Virginia were enrolled in the canning project.
