Madison Market Has Its Largest Sale
The Feeder Sale at the Madison Livestock Market in Madison Mills, last Friday, was the largest ever recorded there, according to Manager Doug Tucker.
On popular request, the mar ket will offer another feeder sale Friday, October 12, starting at 7 p.m.
The September 28th sales totaled well over $198,000 with 1473 head changing hands. One purchaser spent $41,000 for a consignment of cattle which will be shipped to Illinois. Other buyers came from Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Maryland, in addition to a large number of local men. I A third and final sale wiH be held November 2.
Fall Color* Developing In Shenandoah Nati Park
Along the Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park, the colors continue to develop slow, ly. The red of the Virginia creeper is growing darker and appearing in larger masses. Black gums are showing more color than last week. The orange-red of the mountain ash fruit shows up in small patches on Stony Man Mountain as seen from Skyline Drive. From Stony Man’s summit, one can see the bright orange-red of a maple, the darker red of an oak, or the yellow of a tulip tree, standing out as individual trees on the great expanse of green mountain side.
Along Skyline Drive, the sassafras is turning yellow, the ash a bronze red, and the black gum a shiny red. A general sprinkling of many colors is seen,&lon| the Drive and on the more distant mountain slopes. No great masses of color have appeared. The dark green of the summer foliage is becoming blotched. At the present rate of development, the color peak will probably be reached about mid-October if conditions continue to be favorable.
