150th Anniversary
At Beulah Church
The homecoming celebrating the 160th anniversary of Beulah Baptist Church in King William County on Sunday was attended ; by W. H. Lyne who accompanied hie mother, Mrs. Mary Peachey ' Lyne. Mrs. Lyne, who was bap- . tized there in 1886 at the age of , thirteen, renewed many old acquaintances. Dr. Jim Bryant of *, Richmond delivered the sermon. Reminiscence seemed to be the order of the day and a cousin of the Lyne’s, Mrs. Mary Burnley GwaRney, made a collection of these for a history of the church t she is Compiling. Church records are available in detail for all of its 160 years.
The explanation of the two front doors proved to be most interesting to the younger generation that has been conditioned to think in terms of “his” and “hers” (cars - towels, etc.) At the time the church was built ladies entered one door and eat on their side with the children. When a boy became old enough * to wear long pants he was allowed to use the other door and : sit on the side with the gentle-» men.
