B. M. Priode, Superintendent of Front Royal Beef Cattle Research Station, has issued invitations to their Ninth Annual Field Day scheduled for Oct. 17.
Commemorating the 100th year of land-grant colleges and the 100th anniversary of the U.' S. Department of Agriculture, principal speakers will he Dr. T. Marshall Hahn, Jr., President of Virginia Tech, and Dr. Byron T. Shaw, Administrator Agriculture Research Service, USDA.
Dr. Shaw will discuss a century of progress in the USDA, while Dr. Hahn will discuss contributions of the land-grant colleges to the research and development programs. The program starts at 10 o’clock.
The afternoon session includes an exhibit of station cattle and tour of research facilities.
Enrollment in 4-H Clubs has been completed with a total of 94 boys. Largest club is Rappahannock Sr. with 22 members. Other clubs are: Washington I, 19 members, Sperryville I, 18 members, Sperryville III, 15 members; and Sperryville II and Washington II each with 10 members enrolled.
We are locking forward to a year of successful and enjoyable work with these future citizens. Eligibility of Heiftr Calves For Sales
Again the question of eligibility of heifer calves being consigned to organized Virginia Feeder Sales from herds having “suspects” has arisen. ! The matter was taken up with | Dr. George B. Estes, Assistant State Veterinarian.
