Passports on Sale
Golden Eagle Passports to federal recreation areas across the Nation are again on sale this year at the Rappahannock County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) office in Washington, Virginia, it was disclosed today by H.S. Barksdale, Chairman of the ASC County Committee.
This is the family outing permit that a good many people have used in recent years, as they travel to National Forests and National Parks where recreational facilities are provided. You pay $7 for the Passport, and this replaces other entrance fees, such as the $l-a-day that you pay at many such facilities.
The entire family can enter in a private non-commercial vehicle, such as the family car, on the single passport. But this does not cover such fees as those charged for concessions run by private operators, or for overnight camping permits where such charges are made.
Last year ASCS offices in Virginia sold 97 Golden Eagle Passports. Recreational areas ate located in 46 of the 50 states, plus the District of Columbia. Hundreds of parks and other j facilities are included, ranging from the Black Hills of South Dakota to Gettysburg Battlefield in Pennsylvania.
The Passport is valid to March 31,1970.
Memorial Day Speaker
Major General Charles P. Stone, U.S. Army Ret., was the speaker for Memorial Day services held at the Culpeper National Cemetery. He was commander of the 4th Infantry Division in the highlands of Vietnam from December 67 to 68. Mr. and Mrs. Stone, who are from Mathews, were guests for the day of Lt. Gen. and Mrs. Daniel Noce at Sperryville and were entertained for dinner at the Lord Culpeper Hotel by them.
