MEN’S FASHIONS
Men’s clothing styles have changed, much to the surprise of everyone including men. A good indication of this can be seen in department stores, men’s shops and magazines, also television.
What’s happening and what’s new? Shirts are drawing the most attention because they are bright and colorful. No longer is the white shirt being considered the thing to wear in the day time. Instead men are wearing shirts in dark colors such as Belgium blue, gold, Avocado and raspberry. These are examples of just some of the colors. There have been as many as 28 different colors counted in some stores. The French cuff is returning to be worn with cuff links.
The collars are bold with a wide flare and a button-stand front called the “Buttonless Button Down”. (Same wide spread collar with longer points but without buttons.) For the neckwear, witness the return of the thirties in width, color, and paterns. Neckties are wider ranging from 3 to 3'/2 inches wider at the knot area to give the right look for the wider spread collar. Colors are lighter, brighter and definite. Look for sharp colorful stripes, geometers, and club figures.
The emphasis is on shaped clothing for suits and jackets; its influence is noted in all silhouettes. Newest colors are the light summer wheat tones and the deeper honey brown tones. The greatest fashion volume colors are antique gold, bold blue, tree green and rust browns. Patterns, especially in suit and sport jackets, have become more muted, and more subtle.
Suits will either be in the two button single breasted or the six button double breasted variety. The two button single breasted will have deep hacking pockets with ticket pockets and deep side or center vents.
For the six button double breasted suit, regardless of how many buttons on the suit, the waistline button is functional and is always buttoned. This suit will have flap pockets, ticket pockets, wider lapels and deeper vents.
In the sport coats, the three button classic will be found with the wider lapels, softer roll to second button, flap pockets, more shape at the waist and deeper center and side vents.
