Johnson Coleman, Office Manager of the Culpeper North Piedmont Electric Co-op., as guest speaker, at the AmissviUe monthly meeting gave the Club some interesting background of Amissville. He gave a brief account of how AmissviUe received its name, history, which was new to many of the members and especially to the younger generation, who having knowledge of an original Amiss family, still had never heard of the family of Boyse. Both were large families and according to Mr. Coleman both families had large land grants in what is now the Amissville area. With new families settling in the vicinity came the establishing of a postoffice and the need for a name. So all landowners within a three mile cycle were eligible to cast their vote either for Amissville or Bay Seville. The election was hotly contested and Amissville won by one vote. It was facetiously remarked that the winning margin was due to the one extra vote in the Amiss family.
