NED JONES, county clerk, admitted he usually doesn’t speak at public hearings, but he’d make an exception in this case. Jones said he remembered when the clause permitting parents to give two acres to five children was discussed. “We talked then about what would happen in this situation,” he said, adding that the intent of those who drafted the ordinance was to see that something could be worked out to provide for each child.
William Keim worried that granting the Williams rezoning request would have application countywide. “Let’s see if we can get around this without establishing a precedent,” he said.
Henry Eastwood said that “being a friend of the Williams, I’m about to come unglued, but I hope I can keep it together enough to finish.” Eastwood continued, ‘‘I sincerely hope they can get what they want and something can be done which will cause no hard feelings.”
