ASKEW SAID that Route 622, the gravel road to the ski area, is only 18 feet wide with one foot shoulders. This road has an average of 345 vehicles per day from the end of the hard surface to the entrance to the ski area and only 47 vehicles per day beyond that point. Three of the four “inadequate” bridges across the road have already been replaced, Askew said, but one remains. That has a 15ton limit. The Rush River occasionally floods the lower sections of Route 622, Askew noted.
The road should be hard surfaced, the resident engineer wrote, and would have been paved several years ago if it had not been for some difficulty in acquiring the necessary right of way. In the meantime, the funds have been transferred to other construction projects.
