Pete Luke, chairman of Rappahannock’s Supervisors, said he, too, was worried about the “hidden costs” of the development. “When growth comes, additional services are required” and “protection is a county responsibility.” It could be that the number of regular weekend vacationers at the ski area will mean that the sheriff’s department has to add a deputy. And people in his district have made it clear, Luke said, that they don’t want to see county money used for “private gain.”
