FLEETWOOD also said that new rulings require that special precautions be taken in school disciplinary matters to make sure all students get “due process.’’ Parents must be notified in writing of the action that might be taken against their child and the student must be allowed time to present his case before a decision is reached on the part of the principal or school board.
“All this is in keeping with the practices of the courts of this nation,” Montague commented. “Well, I don’t go for it,” Arthlinda Quaintance said.
A special admission committee will decide if a student can be re-admitted after suspension. This will relieve the school board of holding extra meetings, the superintendent said.
