adopting a resolution Requiring Supervisor concurrence for 100 per cent participation in any Sperryville sewer system, the county sanitation authority has somewhat clouded the issue. It should not be upon die shoulders of the Supervisors to either kill or endorse a solution for Sperryville—that responsibility is in the hands of state officials.
AND IF state officials are not willing to accept the responsibility for their actions, then they should not attempt to shift the blame somewhere else. Dr. LeGarde cannot be faulted for upholding his responsibilities as a guardian of the community’s health— and he must be concerned about the health of the entire community, and not merely the economic health of only one part of that community.
But we repeat: There should be no confusing of the issue. It isn’t the Supervisors who are responsible for Sperryville’s problem, and it isn’t the Supervisors who hold the ultimate key to any solution. That burden lies with the state officials who have identified the problem, and with the citizens who must live with the solution. □
