Arrests up ; State Police arrests for speedI ing during the first half of 1976 climbed to 114,625, Colonel H.W. Burgess, the Department’s Superintendent, has announced. This figure represents a steady increase from the 103,422 for the same period of 1975, the 72,271 for 1974 and the 55,374 for 1973, he said. Although the arrests were for all types of speeding, Colonel Burgess said that the great majority was for violations of the 55 mile per hour limit. Arrests of operators of commercial vehicles for the offense numbered 24,702, well above the 19,812 for the first six months of 1975. Traffic volumes for 1976 were some 9.1 percent above those of 1975’s first six months. Colonel Burgess emphasized that these figures represent State Police arrests only and do not include those of other law enforcement agencies. Traffic deaths for 1976 numbered 466, or one less than during the 1975 period. AUXILIARY MEETING The Flint Hill Ladies Auxiliary will meet on Monday, August 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the fire hall.
