The Board also acted on a suggestion from Social Services Director Elizabeth Buntin and approved county contracts to cover treatment of indigents with hospitals in Culpeper, Winchester, Warren County and Charlottesville. Mrs. Buntin also told the Supervisors that Welfare Board member Carter White reaches his 70th birthday this month and will then be ineligible to serve. The Board agreed to consider replacements to fill White’s unexpired term that runs until January, 1981 at the September meeting.
In other action, the Supervisors approved a request from Sheriff W. A. Buntin for a raise in salary commensurate with the ten per cent received by the other county constitutional offers and accepted the secondary road system budget submitted by resident Highway Engineer Don Askew. Askew noted that this year’s budget of $223,000 was an $80,000 increase over the previous year.
Askew also informed the Board the recent legislation passed by the General Assembly requires that a public hearing be held this winter to approve the county’s six-year plan for road improvement.
