Also revealed was an organizational anomoly which allows the chairman of the Board of Supervisors to serve on the advisory panel to the Board on these matters and influence recommendations before they ever get to the Board. Then as chairman of the Board, hearing two sides of an issue, he is permitted to be totally biased in favor of one side throughout that hearing. This observation is not intended to reflect on the honesty or integrity of the present chairman, which is the highest, But on the system which permits such improprieties, inadvertant or not. Finally, it is clear that the people of Rappahannock County must make their views known, be active and be vigilant, if they are to prevent destruction of the area by developers. “The land is my friend,” said a lifetime resident last Thursday.
