At the Rappahannock Supervisors' meeting on Thursday, chairman E. P. Luke announced that the board, "as it stands now, will make no effort to have anyone appear for the county as an expert witness” to defend the denial of C. L. Goode’s Flint Hill subdivision.
Goode had applied for a rezoning from agriculture to residential subdivision on 77 acres proposed for division into 14 five-acre lots. Following the recommendation of the county Planning Commission, the Supervisors turned down the request by majority vote after a public hearing in Aug. 1977.
At the hearing, attorney Claude Compton indicated that his client would bring suit against the county if the rezoning was denied.
Goode initially Tiled his request for a declaratory judgement under the Rappahannock zoning ordinance. Commonwealth Attorney George Davis planned to defend the county’s denial until Goode switched his position and filed under the subdivision ordinance. Crash
Three persons were injured in a three vehicle collision Sunday on Route 211 in front of the Teepee west of Sperryville. Waldon Harmon of Mt. Solon, Richard McGrath of Alexandria and Denise Cameron of Florida were all taken to Culpeper Memorial Hospital by Sperryville and Washington rescue squads.
According to Trooper R. A. Bines, Harmon, operating a Dodge sedan, struck a 69 Chevrolet van operated by McGrath, head-on. The van struck a 78 Ford pickup parked in front of the Teepee < restaurant, which was owned by James F. Leake of Leon. Miss Cameron was a passenger in the McGrath vehicle. The officer said that the van and sedan were totaled and several hundred dollars in damage was done to the pickup. Harmon was charged with driving while intoxicated.
