Relieve Pressure
George Davis asked if a new VASAP deputy wouldn’t relieve a lot of “patrolling pressure” on the Sheriffs Department.
“We don’t patrol as such anyhow,” Buntin responded.
“Well. I know they write a lot of traffic tickets,” countered Davis.
Buntin explained that his deputies are not out on the road “just to look for traffic violations" but rather wrote tickets when they saw a violation while in the performance of their other duties.
"I’ll have to agree with Mr. Buntin,” interjected Supervisor H. B. Wood. “He has to run his department. If he’s against it (applying for a VASAP deputy) then I’m against it.”
Supervisor Butch Eastham also added his support to Buntin’s position.
