In short, those who would wage war on society itself.
No county, no city, no nation can long operate and continue to exist amidst such chaos. Liberty disappears; dictatorship replaces it. If the reactionaries hoping to stop Proposition 13 will not accept a civilized and bloodless revolt, they will one day have to face a violent revolution and find themselves counterrevolutionaries. This is the explicit lesson of history.
Taking one example, there could be no Proposition 13 in pre-Revolutionary France. The French people finally, in a fury of exasperation, plucked up their taxing tormentors, their arrogant parasites, and chopped them to bits - root and branch - beneath the blade of the guillotine.
The new movement may help us avoid this grim scenario; I sincerely hope so. Otherwise, you and others who now talk against the wind may' have to face a whirlwind - along with the rest of us.
Meanwhile, Rappahannock does not need Proportion 13 because the rest of the country is only now catching -op wjth Rappahannock on this one.
