“We’re paying over SI,000 a month now to clean up trash off the ground,” he noted.
Supervisor Dick Latham questioned whether paying $800 for an extra pick-up would eliminate the problem—and charges—for trash tossed on the ground.
“We can’t control that,” remarked Wood, adding that he didn't mind paying for an extra pick-up if one was needed. -He said that in Scrabble, for instance, there were usually empty dumpsters left the night before pick-up, with the mess on the ground.
Luke also read a letter from the Chester Gap Ruritans stating that community’s wish to relocate dumpsters to the southeast entrance on Rt. 610.
He added that the Ruritans had told him that trash at Chester Gap was currently being removed only once a week instead of the two times called for in the county’s contract with Community Trash.
The Supervisors concurred that Chester Gap residents could move their dumpsters anywhere they could find a suitable spot. Luke agreed to inform the Earlys that they could use the Amissville dumpsters and also to check on the additional cost for trash pick-up on a third day at Amissville and Huntly.
In a final comment. Supervisor Butch Eastham suggested that the county clean up a little around the Huntly dumpster sight, spread additional gravel there and repaint the dumpsters.
"It looks so bad now...I think if we kept it clean, they (trash dumpers) might keep it clean too,” he concluded.
