Liquor by the drink will be on Rappahannock ballots in the November election, thanks to a last minute drive by friends of The Inn at Little Washington.
On Tuesday evening, Patrick O'Connell and Reinhardt Lynch, proprietors of The Inn, lacked more than 150 names toward^ the goal of 298 signatures necessary to have the question put to a referendum. (The required number of names is equal to 15 per cent of the registered voters who voted in the last presidential election.)
During the next 48 hours, friends managed to bring in more than 300 additional signatures and by 3 p.m. Friday afternoon. General Registrar Mary Cleverly had authenticated 328 names—well over the necessary 298. As a result. Rappahannock citizens will be able to vote yes or no in November on allowing county restaurants to serve mixed beverages. On the basis of the support that the petitions received.
