Citizen Opposition
Several persons at the public hearing last Thursday spoke against adoption of the proposed ordinances, repeating concerns expressed at the Planners’ meeting. No one but attorney Baumgardner and Ski Corporation Jinf* Moore spoke for approval.
Howard Holschuh protested against lumping conservation with recreation. He asked if forestry, a use allowed by right in a conservation-recreation zone, included the right to clear cut timber, adding that this use would not preserve and protect the environmentally sensitive slopes over 14 per cent.
“They’ve been clear cutting around here for years," interjected Supervisor Butch Eastham.
“I haven’t seen any," countered Supervisor H. B. Wood. He added that the time for changing the county's ordinances was during considerations on the Rappahannock’s comprehensive plan, required for adoption by July, 1980.
