In June, the Cardinal had on-premises food sales totalling more than $5,000 but under ABC Board standards, only 25 per cent of those sales were for "meals." The rest of the Cardinal's business—sandwich and pizza sales—was classified by the ABC Board as snacks.
The Cardinal’s menu lists 18 different dinners, 15 varieties of pizza and 33 kinds of submarines plus light and dark draft beer and 15 domestic and imported bottled brands. If pizzas counted as meals, the Cardinal would have between 45 and 50 per cent of its food sales as meals and could meet ABC Board licensing requirements.
A public hearing on the Cardinal's application for a wine license was held Thurday, September 7. ABC personnel will announce their decision on the application 10 days after the hearing date.
