The Kuncewicz family embarked on the greenhouse enterprise because Dorothy became disgusted with supermarket tomatoes. According to Wit, his wife is a fresh salad and raw vegetable enthusiast. “She couldn't see the point in spending a lot of money for something that tasted like paper." he explained.
Also, the family travelled to Poland for a vacation. “Around each town, there was a belt of greenhouses...all privately owned,” said Wit, noting that these amateur greenhouse operators were all turning a profit. If they could do it there, he decided he could pull it off in Rappahannock.
