school's sewage treatment lagoon, Barnes told the Board that eventual costs for upgrading the system would run between $6,000 and $7,000. According to Barnes, the system will be able to operate within SWCB regulations until improvements are completed IF the School Board signs a consent order, agreeing to make necessary improvements required for the lagoon system to produce effluent that will meet new, stricter standards adopted by the SWCB last spring.
After the consent order is signed, the School Board will be held harmless for any sewage discharge that doesn’t comply with the law, Barnes said. He added that maintenance work required immediately at the elementary school lagoon would amount to a minor expenditure—“only a couple hundred dollars."
